I've always had a problem with the "About the Author" section at the back of a book.
They usually give too much of a textbook answer, i.e.: ____ was born in London,
England. She received her masters in English from Oxford University,
where she is now a professor. She lives in Oxford with her husband and 3 children.
BORING. All of that information can be found in public documents,
easily accessible on the web. An "About the Author" should tell us something about the author -
- something the reader would want to know, would need to ask the author to get.
And so, I will attempt to do so. Forgive the inevitable inadequacy.

No written words ever truly sum a person up.
People are complicated, multi-dimensional (here meaning more than 100 dimensions).
I could tell you that I love to dance, to party, to feel sexy.
That would give you one impression. I could tell you that I love to kiss,
to be sensual, to let moments linger in the air. Another impression.
I can tell you that I like to sit at home alone with
a good book in pajamas and drink tea with a cat on my lap. That's a bit different from the first.
I crave intellectual stimulation, read voraciously, thirst for knowledge of any kind,
even the trivial. New impression? I can let you in on the fact that I like to put
ice cream on people's noses, to jump in puddles, and to swing.
Now you may think I'm child-like or childish, depending on your perspective.
If I told you I go to the theatre, watch foreign films, and speak French,
you may see me differently. In the end, I cannot explain myself adequately
to you because this is a linear expression, and I am not linear. Neither are you.
To know me, you have to experience me. To know you, I would have to experience you.
Until then, I am words on a page converted to thoughts in your mind that twist themselves
into a picture, an image you can relate to in some way. Have at.
Maybe someday you will know me better.

p.s. I go to Canisius College where I am a senior and live in the international dorm.
